Would you like to go on the Orient Express?

I would LOVE to go on the Orient Express -have always wanted to do this.

The old luxury of this train look so inviting as we see it often on TV.

I probably won't get to go as do not feel like travelling the last few years.

I always wanted to do the Ghan in Australia.

Yes, travel on 'The Ghan', First Class, if you can, as get Shower in own cabin!
I've travelled on the 'Old Ghan' via Marree. THAT was an experience & a half! Too long a story for here!
Also, travel on the 'Indian Pacific', again, First Class, for same reason, if you can.
Have travelled Perth-Port Pirie-Adelaide & Sydney-Port Pirie-Adelaide on it.
The best part was on the 'straight stretch' across the 'Nullabor'!

Yes, I would LOVE too. it looks so romantic in the movies, but because of the cost, I think I’ll just stick to CRUISING!
In 1975/6 I think it was, my mother & eldest daughter, who was about 3 at the time, took the Chan from Alice Springs to Oddnadatta! It was soooooo slow! Why go THERE, I hear you asking yourself?! Because my brother & his wife to be, ran the Pink Roadhouse out there. They actually ran it for 38 years! Ugh! Population? About 160-180!

This type of travel has always appealed to me.There is something romantic and nostalgic about first class Rail Travel.I watched the show about The Orient Express which featured David Suchet,when he wanted to know as much as possible about this train journey before playing Poirot in Agatha Christie's 'Murder on the Orient Express'.It was so amazing and reconfirmed my opinion about this
mode of travel. I know friends who have done the trip on The Ghan,and they said they would do it all again straight away!!!! The service was akin to the Orient Express in so very many ways.

I had friends who went last year on the Ghan and they said it was terrible -they had delays and sitting there for hours apparently......

Have been on the 'Old Ghan', the 'New Ghan', the 'Indian-Pacific', twice! Just loved them all! The 'Old Ghan' was very 'oldey-worldey', & just had a 'romantic feel' to it, same as I imagine would be on the 'Orient Express'!
One day. Is 'bucket-listed'!

Only so long as there was no-one wanting to murder me ;) it does look like fun!
A friend of ours went on a similar train journey across Africa and had a wonderful time.

Would L O V E to travel on the 'Orient Express', the COMPLETE journey! On the bucket list!

Actor David Suchet did a documentary about his trip on it, a few years' ago now. DVD would probably be available.

Dongo, I guess your OLD Ghan trip called into OODNADTTA then?! Did you have a look around the museum or call into the Roadhouse? It certainly was slow, wasn't it!?

Yes, miro it did, but we had to stay at the station!

It looks like fun - but never quite seems to work out in fiction - so I may give it a pass.

50/50. I would adore the trip and dislike the fact that, due to it's age, it has shared bathrooms and loos. I watched the David Suchet dvd and thought it looked divine except for that. I am no good at loo sharing.
