It depends. If it's very long, I would buy a plane ticket, or travel by train. That might be faster than driving myself. While driving your own car gives you the benefit of managing the journey yourself, including where to rest, which way you want to go, etc., it also means there is always someone awake all the time to drive. This sucks when it comes to long distance. Not to mention if you don't know the way well and have to look at a map all along.
I think for long drives, then a coach is a great idea.
Cost for petrol too can be expensive. What if your car has problems?
There is a lot to think about. If going alone, that may not be such a good idea.
If I had even a new car, as a woman I would not ever travel a long distance alone.
Our only long drive would be from Sydney to Melbourne to visit our daughters/grand-daughters down there. We only drive down if we have a lot of their stuff to take down for them that they left behind when they moved out. I don’t drive, we so have to stay a night somewhere on the way, so most times we fly down there, about 4 times a year.
