I think in the morning before breakfast is the best time. It is meant to energise you for the whole day, and you are not running around with food jiggling inside you, trying to digest in what would be like a storm at sea.
15 mins after getting out of bed in the morning.Do Not eat food before.
Do some home stretching, and gentle movement...so your body can wake up.
Then do your exercise.
Make sure after exercising, you don't eat for 30 mins.Have your morning shower cooler, for that morning...Not Hot!....your body needs a cool , to get to the right temp.
It is wise to not eat too much, but you should drink lemon and water, to get yourself hydrated. Fresh fruit is a great food, or a Small bowl of a (good )cereal.
If you do exercise at night, you have already put in a full day....so your body will be wanting to rest.
Morning exercise is also great to get the body working....for the day ahead.
The Most Important factor in any exercise is:Do Not Over do it! It matters not what your age is, people seem to think harder is best...That's totally untrue, what is best is a pace you know, you can continue at for 3-6-or more months.
Being consistent, is the most valuable part of any exercise.
Definitely not after food. Other than that, whenever you can fit it into your routine is a good time. Early mornings are great if you can do them, because this sets your metabolism up to burn more energy throughout the day.
I agree, morning before breakfast is best - I just find it hard to do it every morning as I have to get up at 5.10 to get itdone before my husband leaves for work at 6.30. But I do have a 6 monthold, so I'm sure it will get easier as time goes by.
