When have you felt your most lonely?

I don't think I have ever feel absolutely lonely. There are periods in one's life when you feel that you are not understood and in that respect, I have felt lonely, but not for very long. I also think that loneliness CAN be a state of mind and one can snap out of it if they decide to, unless it is due to depression or other medical or psychological reasons..

18 years ago, when one of my sons left home....and I live in the Blue Mountains.
I was with my little boy, who was 4 at the time.It was quite a hard time, and even now can not ever return to the Mountains,it had so much of an effect.
It would have been slightly better if I had a car,but sadly we had to walk for miles.

I have felt the most lonely surrounded by hundreds of people all chatting in a restaurant. I was on my own and felt completely invisible, or like I had the plague or something. It was a very wierd feeling and I could not wait to eat and leave.

When my daughter left home to live on the Sunny Coast. She's back now, even if only temporarily but know I'll cope better second time around! Our son is also getting ready to spread his wings so I'll just have to get used to the quietness!
