Taxis can be expensive nowadays, however are they sometimes unavoidable?

I actually can't remember when I last caught a taxi but possibly when on a cruise several years ago and we were in Noumea or some such -at home I have not caught a taxi for years.

In September, when we travelled from airport to city. We had lots of luggage.
Recently my car had to have some cosmetic surgery done. I decided to try ordering a taxi online to get me from the smash repairer, to work, and the reverse the following day - excellent service! I could even track my taxi on a map as it was making its way to where I was.
Was it Swan Taxis?

When I was going to the tube station with luggage in January. I was going to stay with my grandparents for a week.
I think maybe 4 years ago!
I'm not a fan, but without them we all would be lost at one time or another.
I don't catch taxis. The last time I did catch one was about two years ago while out on the town.

Coming home from the airport late at night by myself a few months ago, I caught a taxi in a state of jet lagged delirium. Otherwise I prefer to catch public transport and get to know the city I'm in from a local perspective.

Last Saturday! At around 7am - to go to the Bay and get on a cruise to go swimming with dolphins!

The cabbie was insane with his driving though - we felt like we were on a roller-coaster! Cost us as we expected though - so no surprises there.

Pretty rare for me to catch a cab - I've only had to order cabs thrice in the past 6 months!
Xarah -that is more often than most!
How was the day?

It was so beautiful - if you get the chance to swim with dolphins, then you must absolutely get on that! :) x

Years ago. Must have been after a Christmas party.
I have caught a lot of taxis normally to and from the airport.
Last year the media released an article about how the taxi industry was planning to introduce an extra cost if you wanted the taxi to pick you up on time.
This upset me as I saw it as just another rip off that companies where trying on.
Imagine if the pizza shop asked you to pay extra to cook the pizza without giving you food poisoning.
I decided to consider my options re travel and found that the long term car parking system at Perth airport was a viable alternative across cost and time as the trip from the long term car park to the terminal was regular and free. The need to stand in line with other people fighting for the few taxis was gone as was the $ 100 2 way taxi trip. This made the parking fee a fair option for 2 and three day trips.
When industries get greedy there is always a tipping point when the people simply say no.

I dont catch taxis often. The last was in LA three years ago!
In London a few months ago. I don't usually catch them here in Perth, but when I travel I often have to, especially if I'm visiting somewhere I'm completely unfamiliar with.
To be honest I can't really remember so that tells me it has to be at least a couple of years.
From the airport a week ago with work, but I virtually never catch a taxi otherwise - too expensive and I'm not too proud to walk or catch public transport, or arrange a friend/family to do the honours (what goes around comes around).

On going to & from Airport for work.

Now retired, if HAVE to go somewhere by cab, very, very rarely as have my own car, I hire a Chaffeur driven car.

At least with that, it's clean, driver doesn't stink of horrendous BO, doesn't have incense burning or my having to listen to Bollywood style of music, all of which I hate!

The cost usually works out approx $10 more exxy than cab! It's well worth it!
I arrive cool, calm & collected, which, to me, is worth the cost!
Last time was about 6 months ago, home to Croydon from Tullamarine, after a trip to Peru.
I have a half price taxi, card would hate to have paid the full fare
The last time was from our accommodation in Perth in March to tbe airport as the busses didn't run to the airport on the Sunday we returned home. The driver was great as was the service and I was happy with the cost charged.
A bl@@dy long time ago and it caught fire!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It must have been 15 years ago, I should think. Hmmm . . .beginning to think I have a history with fire now . . .
