I wonder if first names have changed over the last 50-100 years?
What are/were YOUR grandparent's first names?

Apart from one, mine were not ones you would see nowadays as they were not Australian.
Johanna and Leopold, Hugo and Caroline.

Ivo and Kata, Anto and Berta. All from eastern Europe, so definitely not names you would see nowadays, especially in Australia.

Isnt it interesting -so many of us have names no longer used, or foreign names!

Daphne, Arnold, Terry and Mary. Plus I have two step grandparents, Greta and Bill, who I consider to be my actual grandparents as well.
Ruth, Francis, Alice and Alec. The latter two are pretty popular today. The first two are not as common, though I did consider them when naming my own children.
Jennifer, that is an odd co-incidence -my "real" name is Ruth!

It's pretty. :)
I love the name 'Francis'. I actually wanted to christen our son 'Francis'. Unfortunately, my husband wasn't too crash hot on the idea.

Vee, My parents had a friend who was named Francis. He was born in Melbourne, became an architect, & moved to London. (My husband & I stayed with them in 1976 for a few days) then their children grew up & left home of cause, so he & his wife moved to a small Greek island near Athens! We did them on the Greek island in early Sept 2002! They still kept an apartment in London though. Sorry to bore you with all that, Vee, I just got slightly carried away!!

Arthur, Cynthia, Muriel, Ken. My mum's mum (who died before I was born) was called Margaret. I'm not sure how popular the boy's names are, but I know the girl's names are rarely used these days.
Good question! Maria, Joe were the European contingent, and Dinah and Darcy the Australian. You don't hear names like Dinah and Darcy anymore!
I love the name Darcy too!
by Vee
Me too .. it's so proper!
To me, the first names of Darcy or Matilda, are just SO Australian! I love them!

Ernie and Ada, Jean and George
William and Jeannie (Dad's parents), and William and Ivy (Mum's parents). I've always been rather amused that both my grandfathers had the same name. They both called their sons William too! Thanks to Prince William, William seems to be quite popular still. However, I don't think too many parents are calling their daughters Jeannie and Ivy.

I find it fascinating how, like clothes and interior d├ęcor, names go in and out of fashion. When I was young, names like Jenny, Leanne, Louise, Julie and Carolyn were so popular, but now you hardly ever hear of them.
Margery, Donald, Rosemary and Keith. Classic old names!
Mine were Caroline, and Hugo and on my father's side, Finny and ??

Arthur & Nina (Mother's)
Ronald & Inez (step mum) (Father's). I can't remember my actual father's mother's name. Will have to ask my Sister!
Althea and George, from mum's side, and my German dad's are Klara (my middle name) and Emil.
William and Flora, William and Katherine,
Mary and David and Mary and George - very Victorian.
Mum's parents were Felix and Evelyn, and Dad's parents were John and Lilian.
My mum's parents were Charles & Clarice, & dad's parents were, Adolf & Gillian, but we always knew her as Gilly.
