I nearly always make my own cakes from scratch and the last one I made was a chocolate, cherry cake which was moist and delicious, and best of all, very easy to make.
I used a block a Lindt dark chocolate as well as organic cacoa with the cherries...yummmy
I rarely buy a whole cake as it is generally way too sweet and I use coconut sugar mostly which is not harmful like processed sugars.
I do however buy small cakes for myself -just a one piece and the last one of these was last week and was a lemon brullee with honeycomb, and it was divine!
I do not make many cakes anymore, and last week I splashed out and bought a flourless Orange cake. These are made using almond meal instead of wheat flour and are soaked with a gorgeous orange syrup, then decorated with orange slices and crushed pistachio nuts.
As I don’t have a working oven, I haven’t baked a cake for years, but in April, I bought an Aldi’s chocolate for my birthday dinner with my husband at home. Last year I had a filly dinner gathering, & I bought a lovely tiramisu cake for us all to eat, at the greek restaurant, after dinner, instead of the restaurants dessert. My husband didn’t want anything for his birthday, so I made him a microwave chocolate cake in a mug, witch only took 1 & 1/2mins to make! It was actually very nice!
P.S That 'filly' word should of cause be...'family'. I've now found this question again, after a few years, & the last slice of cake we had was a tiramisu cake, in a cafe in Canggu, Bali. Not at all like tiramisu though. Then we tried another 1 in Ubud, which was slighter better because it was from an Italian restaurant, but it was really a dessert, not a cake as such, but I'll keep looking out for them, in up market cake shops!
