When I used to go back to my home town of Sydney, I used to always have a "gundel pancake" in Double Bay. They were delicious but I don't know what they were made of - possibly walnuts and ??
I love pancakes, rather not pancakes, but the thinner crepes, and like them probably best with sweet inside rather than savoury.
Topped with chocolate sauce and some ice cream....hmmm...
Well mine never look like the level;y ones in the photo, but I have 2 different jams on mine, as well as marmalade, golden syrup & (real) maple syrup.
I also add: Walnuts or currents to the recipe. I'll then add: strawberries, blueberries & banana slices on top, then top that with a bit of thick cream! I only eat this about once a month, & the mixture only makes about 8 -10 pancakes.
Well Vee I think it was probably an indication of what was readily available in those days. I haven't eaten pancakes for a long, long time as I find them a bit heavy but I still go for the lemon and sugar as I reckon with that minimal topping, I can down double what I could if I had a richer topping. LOL
