When I'm baking, I will often hear my mum call 'Hmm, something smells good,' and she will come into the kitchen to see what's cooking.

There are many tantalising smells that just put you in the mood for food. When someone else in the house is cooking, what are the smells that lure you into the kitchen?

The smells I can't resist are bacon and rice pudding.
I'm with you on the bacon Bryony, but I cannot resist the smell of chocolate brownie.

The smell of melting chocolate is divine.
Garlic, freshly baked bread, cinnamon and sugar. I hate the smell of cooking meat.
There are many scents that draw me to the kitchen but I think the one that gets me the most is stewed beef.
Put me down for bacon as well :)
Garlic and onion always smell great.
Sizzling sausages or steaks!
The sound, the smell ... and I can visualize the sausage tucked neatly on a sandwich now....

Or a nice piece of juicy steak.
There are just far too many.. notably freshly roasted and ground coffee and then the rich flavor of spices being sauteed, fresh bread, deliciously sweet cookies/cakes being baked and an Indian special - sauteing of onions/garlic at the start of mixed rice dishes.
Almost any cooking smells.

Only problem is I am the only one in the kitchen, or for that matter, in the house, apart from dogs.

Do I cannot be lured into the kitchen as there are no smells apart from the ones I make myself when cooking!

You'll have to go out of the kitchen and then go in again!
LOL Bryony but my mind will know I am tricking!

Bacon. A roast on a cold night - roast anything. Garlic. A big rib eye on the BBQ or in a pan. Devilled kidneys. Potato champ. I could go on..........
Love Casseroled Kidneys with heaps Mashed spud! So, too, Lambs' Fry & Bacon, with Mashed Spud!
I need to get to the Butcher, quickly!

Meats with spices in it does the trick.
Anything baking!
A roast in the oven!
Bacon sizzling, coffee brewing!

When out near a Bakery, oh! the smell of the freshly baked bread! Irresistible! This is my top fave smell!

Onions caramelising!
Oh hell! I'm now hungry!
Mostly anything in the oven.
Stove top cooking is not really anything new, so a Baked Roast
Cakes
Biscuits too in the oven

You will get my attention.!
Mostly garlic smell from next door neighbour wants me to invite myself in for Malaysian meal, or curry from the Indian neighbours on the other side. As for my family, as soon as they walk through the front door of my house, no matter what I'm cooking, it's always "mmmmm something smells great".
The smell of fruit mince pies baking takes me back to childhood and my mum's kitchen at Christmas when mince pies, Christmas cakes, gingerbread and all sorts of goodies were baked by her.

Also love the smell of cinnamon.

There again I also love to smell a curry cooking - when my son and his girlfriend visit I usually make a chicken curry for them and he always comments on the delicious smell wafting from the kitchen.
Yes Christmas cooking smells are very hard to beat. I guess it is because as well as smelling good, they take a person back to childhood and the excitement of Christmas.
