Should I give money to street dwellers since many are actually there because of drug abuse? Many share stories which I have found to be untrue on further investigation. Giving money could feed their habits but could also help in their survival.
Take nice food and clean water, maybe some second hand clothes or supplies from Salvo's ect.
It matters not if they don't use them, we should look after those in great need.
We have our comforts, and every little bit helps them. :)
Would you give money to someone suffering from a different mental illness? Drug abuse is a form of illness. I generally give money to a charity I know will help those on the streets and will also help those who are drug addicts. If I give money to someone who is begging on the streets it is generally just loose change and I send a prayer to the universe that if they don't use it towards [food, water, clothing etc] that it may at least bring them some comfort to think that somebody cared.
I give change to those on the street, but perhaps a meal would be better. My sister tried to do the latter, but the homeless person told her where to go. I don't know.
Some cafés have a collection jar that you can put money in. Then people in need can come in and buy food and/or drink out of that money. I love this idea and wish more places would do it. This way you know the money's well spent.
