When I was at university, I was one of the few who aimed to teach secondary students. People would recoil in horror when I’d reply to their question, “Are you doing primary or high school teaching?” Similarly, I would recoil in horror in response to those studying primary school teaching.

If you had to, which would you teach primary or secondary students and why?

High-school kids. I love teens, and they have such a bad rap. They need someone in their corner!
Primary school. The subject material is more varied, whereas with high school teachers tend to pick one or two specialty subjects to teach.

Definitely teach primary school. So much more fun...chaos, creativity, energy!
I have taught high school and it is equally good and bad. It mostly depends on the home/environment that the children are coming from. Overall though I do prefer adults.

Primary for me.

I have a friend who just stopped teaching high school for many years.
He now is a very unwell man.Such a nice person, with a awful sad ending to what he once liked to do.
They just did his head in, and his nerves too.

They are not the better of the two in his opinion.
That's terrible, jonaj. I think it depends a lot on where one teaches as well. I've heard people say that if you can survive at schools in a particular suburb in Sydney, you can teach anywhere.

too true.

Younger, the better -they do not talk back!
Have heard some awful stories from friends who taught older children, so certainly would not want to do that.

Finy, I was at the park the other day and primary school students had just been dismissed. I recoiled in horror as a little boy kicked a kebab that was on the floor and yelled, "Fat d*ck!". I think attitude among younger kids is getting worse. Although, it could just be the kids in my area. :|

Primary for me. I remember what little sods high school students were in my day at secondary school!
The stories that I hear from my sister are pretty disgusting. I imagine it's getting worse.

Sad really, and they wonder why people snt want to teach! My daughter is at uni doing early childhood education - hope she survives that!
I wish her all the best. :)

I would rather teach primary school level
Primary.

About 85% of my Grade XII Class went onto Teachers Training College. When met them at Reunions, they couldn't stop work fast enough!
Pits of a job, & one I never thought of whatsoever, thank goodness!
