Do you go by smell or colour or something else? What if you want to eat it next week and not right away?
How can you pick a good pineapple, or is it just luck?

I'm not sure how to pick a pineapple to eat next week, but I do know how to tell when one is the perfect ripeness. Pick the pineapple up by one of the leaves. If the leaf can support the pineapple, it is not yet ripe. If the leaf comes away from the pineapple and cannot support the weight of the whole fruit, you have a ripe, tasty pineapple.
I go mostly by smell - if the pineapple has a really sweet smell then it is ready to eat.
I have to admit I have been smelling pineapples, hoping to find the perfect one, but I am yet to figure out what the 'ripe' smell actually is.
To me it's an almost too sweet smell, but then I do like my pineapples really ripe.
The look and the smell. Sometimes go with your gut feelings too.
A good quality pineapple is one which has a yellowish hue but not too yellow, a hunger-provoking sweet smell and feels quite heavy. Voila!
Pineapples are the one fruit I can not stand to touch!
How crazy is that?
Haven't touched one in 20 years ..... Just looking at them makes me cringe.
All sharp and prickly...Ouch!!
Haha, Ivana me too! When I pick a pineapple, I give it a good whiff but have no idea the difference between ripe and unripe. Haha, pretty sure I only do this to look fancy in the shop like some kind of pineapple whisperer :)
We grow them ourselves and pick them just when their stems start to bend over - they are so delicious. Next time you have a yummy pineapple just try putting the top in the ground, wait 2-3 years and hey presto, you've got your very own home grown pineapple!
Smell, colour & touch!
Haven't chosen a bad 'un yet!
Love them really COLD!
Smell it's bottom and pull a leaf. "Sweet; pulled leaf: good to eat."
Good question! I make sure there are no soft spots
I'm not sure how to pick the perfect pineapple to tell you the truth, I pick the first that comes into my hand.
