How did you chose a babysitter?

I would use somebody that I know well as a babysitter, somebody my kids are already comfortable with.

I don't have kids, but if I did, I would probably ask a friend if they have a babysitter they trust. If they don't, then I would go to an agency that hires nannies and has a lot of credibility. Even then, I wouldn't just leave a stranger with my child straight off. I would want us all to spend several days out together, to observe the person I am hiring, to make sure I trust them and that my child gets on well with them.

I only ever trusted my Mother with my Children.

I rarely get a babysitter, but a couple of times we used a teacher from my son's pre-school who was available for babysitting after hours.

Run an ad in the paper, and run interviews face to face. Check references too.
