How can I go through menopause naturally?

by Carolyn Hopping (follow)

While there is definitely a place for allopathic medicine, over recent years many people have become dubious about the undesirable side effects which sometimes accompany common medications. While menopause is a perfectly natural part of life's flow, many women experience various forms of discomfort related to it and often resort to pharmaceutical products to alleviate the symptoms. However, many would prefer to use natural products if they knew which ones are beneficial and how they are best used. Is it possible to go through menopause naturally? Are you going through menopause and how are you coping? Are you using natural herbal products, or perhaps nothing at all?

Vitamins and water come to mind. No different to experiencing PMS naturally, yet on a higher scale. Give yourself plenty of rest, pampering and some self care too.
Thanks Justine...I'll give these things a try.

The potential dangers of hormone replacement therapy are well documented. The symptoms of menopause can be managed naturally with:

herbs like ginseng, black cohosh and wild yam.
a well balanced diet which includes food that contain phytoestrogens such as flaxseed, sesame seed, fermented soy products (tempeh and miso), alfalfa, oats, cherries and chickpeas.
complementary therapies particularly homeopathy and acupuncture

There's plenty of information online regarding the natural treatment of menopause but it's best to consult a health professional and design a treatment regime that is right for you.
Thanks Clare for all this helpful advice.
At nearly 60....you can see I have had experience with this, and still do.

To be totally honest with you, from the heart.

Take every day as it comes....but ALL women are different. Please remember that.
What we wish to have happen, is not the case.
If you experience things you do not like, read books...get info from women in health care.

Do not suffer, from trying to be all natural.....It is very different from pms.

Read as much as you can, and if it becomes too hard, please seek help.

Menopause is something some women sail thru, others do it with difficulty.

Just remember there is no one way, and it is your time to look after yourself, All the very best :)
Thanks Jonaj for your helpful and compassionate advice...
Having had horrible PMS & heavy periods, all my life, I was pleasantly surprised by NO Menopause symptoms! Suppose gotta have good luck at some time!

I'd be out with similarly aged girlfriends' & they'd be fanning fast enough to rip down a runway!
I just sat there calmly (& tad, smugly) & carry on!
The physical problems are bad enough but now, aged 68 I remember mostly the mood swings. I also nowadays observe women going through the change from 48 years onwards and am amazed that my husband and family stuck through it all with me. I think the biggest problem with the menopause is women who ignore the fact that they are behaving irrationally, particularly in the workplace.
I was so, so lucky! I'd read up in advance on what to expect and was dreading menopause. Then one day I realized that I had not had a period for a number of months - and that was it!
