We've made the most of living in Continental Europe (as opposed to a small island just off the coast!) where there are practically no borders, to have several road trip holidays. Driving through France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg.... great fun. There are still lots of places we didn't get to though!
Last year I did a 15 hour one with my son and his wife, and my two little grandchildren from Sydney to Brisbane.(In one day!).
It was so wonderful, we stopped at places along the way and the children were so good.
We went to Rainbow Beach & Fraser Island! A very good trip indeed! Was so scary when we got stuck in mud and had to get help getting the car across! Later found out we followed the GPS onto 'Offroad' instead of staying on the main highway! It was good fun though~
We drove a camper van from Sydney to 'do' the Great Ocean Road in 2011, the year of the terrible flooding in Queensland which then moved onto Victoria. It rained everyday, the van was full of wet shoes and towels, the roof leaked, the Ocean Road was closed just after we decided to get off it (small landslides) the kids were skimming along the flood water in the campsite on their body boards. Part of the road getting back onto the highway was washed away and we had to get out and lift branches of fallen trees out of the way. It was nothing compared to all, those poor families in Queensland though.
