No. Not a real castle. We will be going overseas in 2 weeks so we will see plenty there. I will make up for a lifetime of never seeing them ! I saw a replica castle in a place called Ballarat, and we took the kids there. They had jousting matches and you got to meet the king and queen. When in WA, there is a place that has seceded from the commonwealth of Australia, so they had a king and a queen, and we met them and they stamped us to say we had entered their country. I believe King Leonard has stood down, but one of his sons has taken over. Looking forward to seeing some REAL castles
Lluxi, you've probably left on your trip so hope you enjoy the ones you get to visit. There are so many you see on the river cruise from the ship itself. I used to like to be up and dressed before 6.00 a.m., grab a French pastry and a cup of coffee and sit out on deck with my camera and capture the castles emerging through the early morning mist, or sit on my balcony with tablet and camera during the day when cruising through the rivers and canals. Hope you enjoyed the trip.
I can't wait Helga. It sounds so nice from your description. I'll be doing all that soon. I know I will see heaps of castles and enjoy the lovely scenery. It will be just beautiful. Less than 2 weeks to go now !!
Yes, I have visited a castle when I was staying with relatives in Germany, I wouldn't know which one it was, the tourist guide was speaking in german, so I couldn't understand what it was all about anyway.
I've visited so many in Europe and the UK. Definitely the European ones are more opulent and I never tire of going through them. I did notice that the castles in Scotland seemed like the "poor country cousins" compared to some in England. The South Island in New Zealand is another I've visited. Can't recall all of them to memory but have souveniers from all of them.
I have visited several Castles in both France and England. Some castles were not much bigger than a modern home and cold and dark. I expected them to be much bigger and was a bit disappointed.
The French palaces were huge and ornate. Very impressive with magnificent gardens as well as interiors.
Yes, I've been to quite a few. Some extravagant ones and other very run down empty ones.
I love thinking about what I would do with all the rooms if I lived there. One of them had this huge open fireplace that took up nearly an entire wall. I was so in awe of it.
No castles unfortunately, but I have stayed 1 night in a chateau with my parents in the south of France, July '68! The bed was the biggest I'd ever slept in & it had the softest mattress I'd ever slept on! (And it was all free!)
