Yes I have once in the country which was difficult - it was in Margaret River just before we got to the town.
I also had to use one when I still lived in Sydney many, many moons ago when my father's car broke down coming back from Rookwood cemetary with my mother.

Luckily have not had to use one lately or actually in many years now.

Yes, had a very bad experience. My car had to be towed out of a multi-deck carpark. The tow truck lost control of my vehicle going down the windy ramp, scratching the front and damaging the front camera (over $3000 worth of damage)
did they pay?

It was a hassle - in the end the roadside assistance company that arranged the tow got involved with regards to payment. I did not have to pay (total was actually $6000 of damage)
Nope, no car to tow.
Yes, if I have had a car accident, or if the car has broken down. My current car, though old, is very reliable, so i haven't had to use one for many, many years.

A month ago, lost my muffler and guess who was able to tow it away, with a smile on his face, to the repair guy.

About 30 years ago . . . timing belt snapped at an intersection and I had to have my car hauled up on a tilt tray. I no longer have the car but she's still going.

About a year ago I had a tyre blowout as I exited the motorway. My car was only 5years old and the tyres about 2 years old. Fortunately it didn't happen at 110 km hr! I couldn't find a place to pull over until around the corner and carefully drove 200 m to pull over. My car does not have a spare so I rang the RACQ who towed me to the tyre shop. I had rung ahead and knew they had a tyre to suit. When there I decided I should replace both front tyres although the second one looked ok. When they removed the tyre it had worn in an extraordinary way and would have blown soon too. All in all I think it was a lucky day.
Yes. Only once. Both of my tyres had been slashed.

Yes, several times' over the current 39year history of my dear car. I consider myself very fortunate in the mostly reliable service it's given me so far.
