Yes, touch wood, I have once been burgled many years ago -not a nice feeling.
Now with two dogs with loud barks, and a full burglar alarm system, I think a smart robber would go elsewhere.

Yes I have.

It takes a long time to feel safe again, and it was a dreadful thing to have happen....The Police were called, and they never found who did it!

One funny part to it all was that we had a back room in that house....where we would put all our junk at the time.I remember being in a 'hurry' the morning of the offense, so I did not tidy up that spare room and left clothes all over .
One of the detectives said to me''Looks like they had a ball in this room''!!

I did not want to say it was how I left it !*#!?
(The rest of the house was very tidy when I left that morning) .
My house was robbed by the people who were taking care of it while we were on holiday. In some ways this was even worse than if it had been burgled by strangers,as the sense of total betrayal which I felt at the time is something I still do not feel I have gotten over, even after almost 30 years! I have dogs who tend to frighten most people who do not know me away,as they have extremely loud and continuous barks which alert the entire neighbourhood when unknown folk are about ,no matter the time of day or night!!!
NoI have been lucky in this regard...fingers crossed for the future...am very careful about security

Luckily this has never happened to me. I have lived in areas where I wouldn't be shocked if I were burgled, I've just been lucky enough that is hasn't happened.
I haven't but my husband has.

No but I have suspected it when things have gone missing. Then it has turned out that my "safe spot" was not my " can not be forgotten" spot. So remembering where I put things meant that there was no need for a police report after all.:)
Not long after I moved into my first home as a single girl alone I was robbed while I was in the front yard spreading pine chips over my new garden. They ran as I was coming in and I heard them go from the back door. There was a pile of cigarette ash near my front window so someone was kerping watch. They got my purse and every handbag I owned. They had searched through ebery drawer, cupboard and wardrobe.
Yes, leaves one very unsettled.
Twice
The first time I caught the person about to bash my partner on the head with a large lamp stand.
This turned in to a violent struggle
During the extended battle the police were called 7 times. The first at 4.30 pm when the alarm first went off.
We arrived at the house at 5 pm .Thinking that no one would still be there 30 minutes later.
All hell broke out.
This lasted approx 30 minutes with three fights across the house leaving a trail of broken furniture. The police arrived at approx 7 pm and then half way thru the interview they said they had to attend an emergency and raced off like Starckey and Hutch only to return 5 minutes later to advice us that they had worked out that we were the emergency. The officer was clearly concerned about the whole event and decided to push for a result.
He tracked the creep down from the dna and had him lock away for 2 or three years as this creep had a huge list of crimes across 3 states to answer for.
The a second person entered my house while I was at home and stole my wallet.
I don't have a dog any more and cant afford one or the time to care for one but they protected me my whole life. It was only after my last one died that all this started.
Bring back the cane like Singapore and make the crimes work in hard labour until they pay compensation. Currently we treat them better that they enjoy out side of gaol.
How does that work. We spend 100 thousand dollars a year on them in gaol.
If you want to cut Government spending reduce the conditions these people enjoy.
Yes
Twice in different houses. They went through all the drawers and took nothing, On another occasion I found my hard to start Premier across the road. At the next place he broke in and when I opened the door to enter the house saw him and he took off thru the broken laundry window cutting himself. On all occasions the cops did nothing.
We haven't been robbed, but my mother's house was robbed 3 times. 1 time they took her whole LP collection. 25 of the LP's were given to her, by her late husband, my father. My in-laws on the Central Coast were robbed about 6 or 7 years ago. My m/i/l was watching tv, & my f/i/l was mowing the lawns, on his ride on lawn mower. My poor m/i/l was upset about for years afterwards. She now has no jewellery to pass on to her daughter. My other 1/2 said his father probably had his 1st ever $1 stollen from his sock drawer! None of the thieves were caught, nor any of the missing items from these 4 house break ins was ever found.
