I have just been given some seeds for next year, and not sure if I should throw them in the ground or wait till next year!
I have had them growing once, and my friend who gave me the seeds said they just go wild each year and multiply.
I think they are very pretty so will scatter them somewhere.
I am quite bad when it comes on to planting anything. I have never planted poppies or any other flower for that matter.
I have a black thumb, so flowers are a big no for me in general. If I were to be honest about, I don't really see the point of flowers. They serve no real function unless they are indoor plants and are being used to improve air quality. I much prefer growing (or attempting to grow) food.
In England, yes. They are one of my favouritest flowers in the whole wide world. (Etymology
favourite + -est, as if a superlative form of favourite. . . Wiktionary)
No I haven't....I more than likely should have with some half century growing skills, but alas...I'm still thinking 'sweet-Peas', one day !
You know, for some silly reason I thought it was too hot here . . . .so I am danged well going to plant some!! :-)))
and Sweet Peas too . . . LOVE EM!!
Let me know Rice how you go will you...pweeze :)
No I haven't, but I would like to maybe next year.
I've tried growing poppies but was unsuccessful, I love the oranges and the gold colours especially when there are quite a few of them all together.
I haven't, but I remember my mum had a little California Poppy patch in our back garden when I was a child. I much prefer the red wild poppy and there is nothing more beautiful than to stand in the middle of a field of wild poppies with nothing but scarlet as far as the eye can see - absolutely gorgeous!
Rice - although we're from Scotland, my husband, son and I lived in a village near Thetford in Norfolk for several years before coming to Australia. It was a very rural area with heaps of cornfields covered in poppies - what a glorious sight it was. Nothing has compared to it since I have to say - and none of it manufactured by man!
Three years ago I planted some assorted flower seeds. The most successful plant was a yellow Californian poppy which now self seeds prolifically. I have them all over the garden. They are so cheerful.
When I was growing up in Melbourne,we always had poppies in Spring.Just glorious!!! I haven't grown them here in Nth Qld at all.
My Mother was THE best 'green thumb' I've ever known!
Our gardens', & pot plants' were exceptional, & I remember an oval-shaped small garden of just 'Icelandic Poppies', every colour available then.
I have never grown them, though they are pretty.
Poppies are a lovely flower, but we don't have enough sunlight, where we live, because of all the trees hanging over our garden.
no I didn't but I love them so much
