Yes! Actually, my husband spent many years working as an archaeologist, so he knows where to look when we are on hikes. Our kids love when Daddy gets into "archaeologist mode".
I went to a very fancy Hotel in Sydney once, and in the (I think it was marbel?) was a Fossil ! in the ladies toilet.
I also had a friend who had I think slate? on her floor, and in the laundry....it had a fossil in bedded.
No I haven't but I hope to next time we go on holidays. In Richmond in Northern Queensalnd, Kronosaurus Corner takes fossil hunting tours. I really want to go on one of these.
Years ago, when I was travelling through Coober Pedy in outback South Australia I found the opalised fossil of a shell. Naturally, I was very excited at the time! I have no idea how old it was, but it was definitely pretty ancient....I've since heard that opalised fossils are quite common out there.
At the junction of the Three Gorges in Karajini NP/WA, I stood on rocks that had originally been on the sea floor. They had wave ripples fossilised on their surface. Millions of years' old & had been uplifted due geologic process, a few thousand feet. Just awesome! Gave me goosebumps to think of how OLD this rock was! Loved it!
Yes - my son is a geologist and he tells me the history and how many eras it has gone through before landing on our doorstep. I also wear my late husband's signet ring which is made from a trilobite surrounded by silver.
