I've made houmous with a food processor, but never by hand. It would take so long that I'd lose all interest in making it.
I did it with a fork and it was somewhat cathartic in my sleep deprived state before I realised what I was doing! Definitely nothing like mashing potatoes.
I use a food processor for mashing potatoes too lol.
That is a great idea! I have never done that!
Saves a lot of time and effort. I chop them first, then steam, and then put in the food processor with butter. :)
This morning I did, in a half dazed state. My youngest was up most night and I woke up before the rest of the house and realised I hadn't made any hummus for a party tonight. I starting mashing the chickpeas with a fork, it was hard work! That was before the coffee and common sense kicked in! Seriously, what was I thinking?
LOL, Naomi . . . just proving you are a bona fide member of the human race. :-)))
I laughed so hard and then took a photo! Honestly... there was no logic. Why not wait till the others woke?
I have to admit to taking blenders and mixers to a bedroom and shutting the door to use them while we had people sleeping in the house. My mother-in-law even took the kettle to her room to make tea once so she would not wake us!
I have never made hummus, but if I did, I would use a food processor. Life was meant to be easy.
I agree entirely. It is amazing what you do without sleep!
I have crushed chickpeas with my food processor, but haven't tried it with a fork.
The chickepeas were harder to crush than I thought. Not soft like peas and tougher than white beans. Blender for me next time, sleep deprived or not!
I've never crushed chickpeas, but 1 of our daughters made lots of yummy hummus with her ex b/f, using a blender. Very handy also, for the bbq's they had.
How about using a meat tenderiser, if 1 doesn't have a blender?
