Yes, I have been to Club Med Bali when I was single in my 30's and had a great time - really loved it and in particular the food and the fact that you do not have to leave and drag bags around.
I have also been to a similar resort in Phuket or thereabouts where I got extremely sick and ended up in hospital both there and back home in Perth - turns out I had a rare form of hook worm which you get from treading on something (on the beach) as in those days I did not wear shoes when we walked on the beaches! horrible experience but the resort was lovely!
No. I have never been to a Club Med. We are in a travel Club though, with resorts world wide, and we don't have to pay accommodation, but have to pay for our own food and entertainment. On our honeymoon, we stayed at a resort where everything was included, except some motorised sports. We have only just, in the last few years, been able to travel without the kids, and we missed them like anything the first time we went on a cruise. As for going anywhere before marriage, I had a mortgage at 21 years of age, so travelling was quite impossible. Paying off the house has always been my priority.
British - that is the part, as I get older, that I enjoy - there is so much to do in these resorts and having been to so many places in the world, I think these are possibly for young groups, or older people/couples! Although there was a mixture at the ones I was at - they are great if you like all sorts of sports.
I haven't and it is not the kind of thing that would appeal to me at all. I like to go places under my own steam and with only one or two others . . .especially if it is a place of historical interest as I like to meander and ponder.
No, I haven't ever been to any of these holiday resorts. When I was single and much younger, I admit that I did think about doing this, but it never happened, and I have no regrets, as I have done many other wonderfully satisfying things.....
When it first came out and I was a lot(!) younger, all I could think of was ladies' sanitary products . . . . it may as well have been Club Tampax . . . ick . . . surely Australia can't be the only place that sold Meds . . . ? Hahahahaha. oops. heehee.
No we've never been to a Club Med, & the only resorts I've been to are Bramton Island & Plantation Island. I'd rather be on a cruise ship cruising around pacific islands, as well as, NZ, Panama Canal, or Alaska.
Yes, my husband and I honeymooned at Club Med Noumea which has now closed down. I went there expecting luxury and the hotel itself was anything but (probably why it's since closed down).
I think the funniest thing I have ever heard was that there was no fridge so people I knew were filling their bin with ice and using it to store cold drinks in. We were talking about it at dinner one night and a couple at the communal table we were at looked shocked by what a great idea it was and confessed they had been filling their bidet with ice for their drinks!!! Gross!!
We were booked into a Club Med like place in the pacific once. We never made it as I nearly died and ended up in hospital instead for 5 1/2 weeks. Maybe it is our warped sense of humour but we now joke and call the hospital Club Med as they put a bed on the floor for my husband and fed us both good food (despite my allergies / intolerances) and didn't charge us extra for it. They also stood at the door and sung happy birthday to me with a piece of cake - as I had no immune system and they weren't allowed into the room and I wasn't allowed cake due to the potential bacteria risk. I laughed my head off. Hilarious really.
Since that time we have not been to a real Club Med. I like the idea of having a cocktail, eating prawns and watching the sunset.
