I accepted a small sum from a 'stranger' - I had known him for a mere hour, and the money was actually for my son. The stranger insisted, and I could not reject his offer - though I tried - without running the risk of offending him. Although I felt uncomfortable accepting his money, he was lovely and his offer was a true gift.

Have you ever accepted money from a stranger? How would you have responded in my situation?

I would and I have.

I have also done the same thing and given money to people who I felt needed it.
People on the street, passing by, and I just give it to them...and walk away.Never had anyone return it...Thank God!

I once gave all in my purse to one lady at Church....and she told me she needed it to send to a lady in Africa, who was sleeping on a chair. In a hut.

So yes I like to follow my gut...it's there for more than one reason.

I told my son in fact the other day! ''Gee I wish I had a lot of money, and I would give to people in need every single day''.

Where I live there are few who need....as the homes are very expensive outside my village.

But! drive down the road 20 mins, and you have the complete opposite.....I would have no problems finding folk in need believe me.

You get more out of the giving, than getting.
I found that lesson out years ago. :)
Never been offered. What did he want to give you money for? I wouldn't if there was no explanation as to why, but if there was then I probably would not mind.
It was my son's birthday, and I guess he felt generous.

No, never have been offered.
If so, wouldn't accept, as too cynical to not believe there'd be 'strings attached'.

A 'stranger' wouldn't hand over money out of the 'goodness of his heart', in this day & age!
There'd be a 'payback' of some description required.
What about a 'stranger' you know you will probably never see again?
by Vee
But, Vee, what 'guarantee' does one have you'll never see that person again? None!
So, IMO, my comment stands!

LOL, fair enough, donjo. Touche. Touche.

I'm with you Vee - I would feel extremely uncomfortable accepting money from a stranger but there are some circumstances where to reject the offer could become very difficult and, as it was for a child, I would probably do what you did. I think some people are too cynical about life, and there are actually pretty good people around, even in this day and age!
I have never faced this situation of simply being given money by a stranger. I have been given tips by customers which I accepted. Not sure if that counts.
by Gia
I don't think that would count. Tips are part of employment. I had no problem accepting tips when I was waitressing.
by Vee
I don't think I have ever, or rather I cannot remember if I have.
However, depending on the circumstances, I probably would.
