Sometimes, brand names are so oddly picked that one cannot help but wonder "What were they thinking?"

Have you ever come across a really strange brand name? Perhaps in your travel overseas, where it didn't mean something strange in the local language, but in English, it did mean something odd?

The CeX shop - It stands for Computer Entertainment Exchange, but I hate saying the acronym, I always say the letters instead.

When I lived in Singapore there was a very popular clothing brand called Wanko and a sports equipment shop called Bum Equipment.... you could walk around Wanko emblazoned across your chest and Bum Equipment labelling your bottom and no-one thought it in the slightest bit strange :)

When I went to Switzerland, the "exit" on a highway is called "Ausfahrt" in German. I had gone with some friends, and it was always something to laugh about everytime we took an exit! Not a brand name, but still a language "glitch".

Yes, literally means 'from journey'. The 'journey' was on the motorway, & you 'exited' it. German verb, 'fahren', to travel.

One that has made me think over the last 50 years I have been going to the Hairdresser is:
''Schwarzkopf''.
The name means ''Black Head'' in German.

Yes, jonaj, that brand has been around for decades!
My Mother owned a hairdressing Salon from 1964-1972.
Saw many 'Schwarzkopf' products as a kid, then!

I still think 'Coon' Cheese, is the best I've heard!

When I was a kid, I thought is was short for 'Raccoon' Cheese, & I could NEVER work out how cheese was made from raccoons!
