Fancy dress parties are a lot of fun and a great way for people to break the ice and talk to others. Have you been to a fancy dress party and what/who did you go as?

I love fancy dress parties. We used to go to quite a lot of them in our younger days, No-one really seems to really have them that much anymore (for adults). I have been dressed as a pirate (complete with the toy parrot on the shoulder), a softball player and a French maid (in my younger skinnier days haha). I've also been to a toga party with the obligatory white sheet wrapped around me. I decided to have a theme party for my latest "milestone" birthday and had a 70s theme. I bought a disco diva costume complete with long auburn wig and large sunglasses and hubby joined in with the afro & shiny disco shirt. Some people didn't recognise me straight away when I went to greet them. Lots of people made the effort to go all out with their 70s costumes - they just needed the excuse (we had an Elvis & John Travolta in his Saturday Night Fever outfit). It breaks the ice and everyone has a laugh from the time the party starts. I had so much fun that I want to do it all over again.
They have lots of fancy dress parties hosted at cubs, but people don't seem to organise them themselves nowadays.
It was party where you had to go as something beginning with"B" - I went as Bob Marley!
Good one! Did you have a "rasta" wig?
I haven't been to a fancy dress party since I was little. I can remember two occasions. One I dressed as Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz (I was about 10), and the other, I was Happy from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves (I was about 5).
That sounds really cute Bryony. Did you keep any photos?
Not for the Dorothy one, but I think there are some pictures buried away of me as Happy.
I've never been, but would love to go. Who would I go as? I'm not sure...

If there's a theme Vee it makes the choice a little easier. That's why I made my party a 70s party. I had lots of hippies from the early 70s & the disco dudes for later in the decade. My friend had a rock !n roll party where everyone dressed up from the 50s. If it was a dress up in anything you wanted, I'm not sure what I would go as either - there's so many choices - especially when you walk into a costume shop.
Therese B, that sounds like so much fun!

They really are a lot of fun Vee. It's good for us all to be a little silly sometimes & not worry about what anyone else thinks. I'm now trying to think of a different theme for my hubby's 60th birthday in 2016. Seems a long way away but half the fun is in the planning. (-:
Hmm, sounds like fun. Have you any ideas as yet? More importantly, does he have any ideas lol?
by Vee
Not yet Vee. Hubby probably won't have any ideas as its too hard to think of something, however he always gets in to anything like this and has fun. Some thoughts, come as your favourite movie star, or a Hollywood Glamour party where you could all dress up. I have a year or so to come up with something. It sounds far away but it will be here before we know it. (-:
I have never been to one.
If I was younger, I would go.
Not now, too much fussing for me.
You're never too old Jonaj. At my party, the John Travolta outfit was worn by a 70 yr old - complete with the white suit and wig. Plus a few 60 + yr olds in their disco/Abba look-a-like outfits. And my 58 year old brother was Elvis. Plus you should have seen my 84 yr old Dad dancing his feet off. If you're ever given the opportunity, give it a go. It's fun. (-:
