You've been invited to a wedding, do you wear something you already have in your wardrobe or buy a new outfit or two?

Sometimes I will wear something I already have and sometimes I will buy something new. When buying something new, however, I stick to a budget. For the last two weddings I went to I found dresses for a steal. One was $50 and the other was $28!
I have two outfits that are ''Timeless'', and they were bought for the exact reason.
They are identical, and if someone was to spill on me or I did, out in the car is the same outfit for me to change into.
Timeless because it is a pair of amazing Black Pants, with a Black satin strip on the outside of each leg, and Black 'cami top', with a Strong Pink Blouse, ...Black Bag and Black shoes.
That sounds like an idea worth copying, my dear :-))
Just gives me peace of mind :)
I am not good with clothes and fashion, so there is usually a panic. The last wedding I was at, somebody accused me of wearing the same outfit as I had to their wedding . . . ! It wasn't - I have photos - it was just that I wear so much red. I reckon I should get one outfit and wear it to every blasted wedding I go to. Maybe denim overalls. LOL
Even if it had been the same outfit, why would that have been a problem?
Beats me . . .I found the remark very odd. People are just quite strange sometimes. What if I could only afford one set of good clothes . . ? Eeeh, there's nowt so queer as folk
The person who accused you of wearing the same thing twice should have been ashamed of themselves. I dare say, their behaviour is quite telling.
Some people are just rude.
Thanks Jennifer, yes, I thought it was rude . . . and I was a bit embarrassed.
I live life on a fine budget and don't have the extra money available to buy a new outfit for every wedding invite. I have several outfits that I mix and match to try and make a unique combination of existing clothes to wear to each wedding. I do try, however, to add a new accessory each time, whether it be a scarf, earrings, or a brooch.
Something I already have. Buying new clothes for one event is a waste.
I have some beautiful formal after five dresses. It would be terribly sad not to wear them. I have quite a few to choose from, they are only a few years old and are classics, that will always look nice. I have no need to buy anymore formal clothing.
I certainly wear I already have. I've not been attending many weddings so I really don't risk of appearing stale at any of them.
it depends on whose wedding, who the patrons are, how much time I have in advance etc
Haven't been to Weddings, since the '70's!
For daughter's recent Wedding, used outfit already had of long beigey-gold pleated culottes, with matching coraly-flowery long-sleeved blouse.
Gold Pewter Shoes, & matching handbag. Outfit by Maggie T.
Just sooooo comfy, & felt a million $!
Lovely! Don't suppose you have a pic, donjo.
Oh! Vee, being the 'Luddite' I am, I don't know how to post a photo, via this here ITablet! Lol!
Oh! LOL. Look it up on YouTube. No excuse with information at your fingertips, donjo. :-P
Oh! Vee, did I also tell you, I'm a 'chicken' at new technological requirements!
Oh donjo, I live in hope ~LOL!
I would usually wear something nice from the wardrobe. My daughter got married 3 years ago near the Bahamas. I was to give her away. I was going through menopause and profusely having hot flashes in a very humid climate. The clothes I brought with me to walk her down the aisle would have clung to me . I dressed for comfort in cotton local clothes.
We hardly ever go to weddings, except for family members, Those were already cloths I had in the wardrobe, but when a nephew of mine recently married in India, the wedding was to be over 3 nights, at different venues. The bride to-be had informed us that the 1st night was the most important 1, so I had a lovely Indian outfit made for that evening. The 2nd evening, i wore all pink & orange, silk items, from the wardrobeI !The 3rd evening, I also wore silk items from my wardrobe, in all black, dark blue & turquoise I did wear the same outfit to my 2 sister's weddings though. This was a beautiful long black silk Chinese jacket, embroidered with beautiful colours with black silk pants. I also wore this to a high school friends small wedding, back in the early '70's. In '73, borrowed a long cotton pink dress, covered in white embroidery, from 1 of my sisters, for a primary school friends wedding! And when I went to a wedding in Boston, & in K.L. both in '95, I wore something I already had. And for 3 other family weddings,(1 in Fiji,) I also wore something I already had! So after all that, I've only bought a new outfit for a wedding once!
When I was younger I probably would have bought something new as I would have worn it again, however nowadays there is no way I would buy something new as it would be something I would wear only once and too much of a waste. However, having said that, I would possibly buy something not so dressy that I could wear again though my cupboard is so full of things I already do not wear as they are "too good"!
it really depends. If its a wedding of a close family member I would buy one. If I am a guest at a friends, maybe not.
