Yes, yes, yes!
I do not mind babysitting for my grandchildren, however I get so tired doing this -can't imagine how I managed with 3 children once!

But then again i am talking about 40 odd years ago-or perhaps a few more!

I usually manage reasonably well, but then,I do not have any children Full time!! I think that child-bearing years are this for a very good and practical reason....the older we get,the less energy a lot of us tend to have! I do love children and will often look after the boys from next door.We all enjoy the time together immensely.I have even forgotten to send them back home sometimes, but then, these are very well-behaved children.
Totally agree with you Finy.

If I was to be 100% honest, if I never had to baby sit again.....I would be so happy.

The responsibility is huge.
I also have lovely grandkids, but hate being in another home, for hours on end.

I just LOVE my grandchildren, but at nearly 61 I'm tired......Plus I have two part time jobs, look after other's needs and leave mine out.

I do enjoy visiting the G/Kids every second week for 4-5 hrs, but baby sitting is not really a great love of mine.
I have done my time, and still have a son at home, which keeps me very busy.

I get used. I hate it. I try to be out, unavailable or uncontactable. A lot.

I'm the same, and sometimes I babysit till 3:30 A.M.!!!
I can't sleep knowing the little ones need me to look after them, even if they(are sleeping)....It's my 'watch', so I have to stay awake till 3:30 am?
One night I had had no sleep for 22 hrs.....it's very cruel to expect a grandmother to do that. :(
by jonaja
I am the same - if there is a bub here I cannot sleep and it is so exhausting. What I hate is that they ask for X amount of time and just never come to get the child. We ALWAYS have to ring and say, "Where are you?" Then you get the, "Oh, we just thought we'd go shopping, have a sleep, let him sleep over," (GRRRR!!) or the classic . . "I thought (insert relative here) was picking him up.

O M G !!! mine are the same...only they only go out at night, and have a ball!
I always have to phone them, say 'where are you'?...they say 'Oh we are having a great night, thanks Mum?*#!?"....Then I feel bad saying come home....so I say well do you have any idea? what time you may come home.

Reply: 'soon'?

Like 2-3 hrs later.

Yes. I love them, but sometimes it's a long day.
Absolutely. I have no idea where my son gets all his energy from but sometimes it does feel like he's using mine as well as his! I can feel tired just watching him zoom around...
I think for me it is partly the noise of two children playing that exhausts me as I am so often alone and am used to peace and quiet!

I love being around young nieces and nephews - they can be a handful at times though

Sometimes they do. I try to have fun activities for them to do or just let them play outside. TV as little as possible.

I don't have children but my husband does and now I have four step-grandchildren. They are so full of energy. I have an overwhelming respect for working mums; I have no idea how they manage. They must live in a constant state of exhaustion.
Yes, yes and yes. Give me a room full of puppies, kittens or baby birds anyday.

I agree! :)
