Yep. It has residue on it from stuff it's been washed in or treated with to reduce creases and can smell weird.
I normally always wash things before using them.
I bought some Sheridan percale sheets online recently and because we have had so much rain, and because I am basically lazy, I did not wash these. They were not soft and silky as percale often is, but quite hard, so will not do this again. Im sure once these good quality sheets are washed that they will become soft.

Clothes I would always wash first - there must be some sort of starch in the sheets?

Oh yes, definitely. There could be anything in there.

It depends if I'm motivated. I know the answer should be yes. So now that I feel like I have been publicly shamed, I will make more of an effort. >.<

Most Definitely....

sure do!

Yes, just the thought alone of not doing that, makes my skin crawl.
Always. You need to get tbe dressing out of them otherwise they will be hard, scratchy and smell.
Yes definitely. I don't know what chemical they could have on them.
Yes,I do wash my new items as a rule, and especially T shirts, sheets and towels!! I find that T-shirts often have excess colour which needs to be rinsed out, and the Manchester items,as Finy mentions, are often rather stiff until they have been through my wash cycle!!! Other clothes,I like to wash just in case they have chemicals of any type which can cause me ti break into a rash!!As for Tea Towels,I have ALWAYS washed these when I buy them.It is something my mother used to do,and I simply followed suit!
Clothes, yes!
You don't know who's be trying them on in the shop, plus they've dust, & dirty hands feeling them. Eeeeewwww!

Manchester usually wrapped, so no.

Rule of thumb, I wash what's not pre-wrapped.

My Tea-Towels have been 'inherited' from my Mother. They're 'Irish Linen' ones bought after the War, & still in good condition. I wash, then 'Elna-press' them.
Can't abide using 'unpressed tea-towels'!

Yes I do.
yes have you ever seen a factory or how things are dealt with in a retail out let or a distribution centre. nasty.
I only wash new cloths before wearing them. I know I should also wash new sheets before using them, but I don't! Not that I buy new sheets regally, because I have my 9 or 10 sets of coloured sheets, so they never wear out!

No, i like the feeling of the clothes and linen fresh from the packaging/store.
Packaging states: 'wash before use' - and for good reason!
