I would hate for anyone I know to be a policman or woman as it is so dangerous, and they seem to be not well liked generally.

Some of them are not so nice (I've known a few) however I DO think they should be very highly paid as they often have an awful, dangerous job.

I find it also dreadful that if they get attacked and shoot someone, there is an enquiry -if someone pulls a knife or a weapon to them, they should automatically be allowed to shoot them.

Great Question! Finy :)

I think they should be on par with teachers and nurses (or a little more)
by Gia
Yes they should receive a good wage certainly the equivalent of nurses.
by fran.
Actually I thought they received more than nurses or teachers…..but there you go

I do feel that members of the police force do deserve to be well paid for the ever increasing danger they have to face in this career. Things seem to escalate so highly out of control,in such a rapid manner these days, that It is a very risky occupation;far more than it ever used to be.I think that many police are extremely under-appreciated.
For what they see and do? Absolutely.

I agree with Gia, they should be on par with nurses and teachers and other jobs of the like, I do also think however nurses and teachers should be paid more than they are - I do understand it's not all that easy to though.
It's a job where you can get physically assaulted on a regular basis so they should get enough to make that worthwhile. As the saying goes if you pay peanuts you'll get monkeys.
Yes I do. Have worked in the WA Police Department in an Admin position for quite a few years in the past and seen first hand the stress they endure....also the publicity they get is always about unfortunate incidents...there are many more good ones and things they do which are not heard about...typical in any job though, you only tend to hear about your errors!

I think it would be of great help to them if they were paid much more.
Somehow....it would say ''you are well worth this for what you do''!
Quite true some are and can be not very nice people....that's in a lot of jobs.
I think given what they have to deal with, on a day to day basis could be half the problem.
One of my best friends was in the P.F. ten yrs ago...

He is totally amazing as a human being, and I have to also say....they don't stay as long in the force, as they use too.

YES! pay them I say more, but even a tad more on top.
After all......they go to work, not knowing 'if' they will go home that night.

The risk is huge, and what a job to have.
You could not pay me enough to be one.
I suppose that would depend on how high is highly..... but it is a job that I would not want to do but am very grateful that someone else does! So it certainly should be a reasonable wage and extra danger money for those who face the really nasty situations.
However, it is all paid from public funds which are stretched already, so goodness only knows where extra money could be found to provide adequate remuneration to the police. Only by taking it away from someone else equally necessary I fear.
you have good cop and bad ones too, no i don't believe they are to be highly paid i believe the money should be equal amongst the others who are not been paid and those who are not getting much to feed their household
Not an easy job. Plus, poor police would be more susceptible to corruption. Yes
Yes I think they should be paid well and I also think they should have better training
by AJ
They shouldn't be 'highly' paid the same as an Airline Pilot, but they should get a 'decent enough' wage, so possibly 'backhanders' don't come into play.

Their training should be increased, to cover the 'criminality' scenarios' with which they've to deal with in this day & age. And this should be ongoing throughout their careers, up to & including Commissioner.
Airline staff get to go home after work.
Police may not make it home any given day.
by jonaja
It depends.
There're numerous occasions when airline staff haven't gotten home at night.
