At 8.30 last night, I got a text inviting us to play laser tag then go to dinner for a friends child's birthday. We have things on, and I was surprised anyone would be able to make it at such short notice. Then I thought maybe we were the odd ones out having activities booked or play dates organised for the holidays.
Do you plan the days ahead or do you go day by day?
We plan some days and some days we don't. Sometimes we have days at home to rest from all the activities. If it were for a birthday, I would expect a little more notice than a day, as we'd want to get a present and yes, might already have something on.
My school holidays had to be planned around my parents' work schedules. I would spend the first quarter at a play scheme which I hated, the 2nd quarter at a sports camp, which I enjoyed, the third quarter visiting my grand parents, and the last quarter relaxing at home.
Not everyday is planned but most are (my kids love it when they know exactly what happens when!) so It will be quite inconvenient if someone invites on short notice. If we are invited to a birthday party on such short notice, my first thought would be "were we invited because some other family backed-out last moment?"
