I don't make New Year's Resolutions, preferring to focus on goals year round. Although the New Year can be a catalyst for renewal and revival, a consistent effort towards goals is required for success. Perhaps New Year would be better used to plan the progression to your goal in manageable steps. A note or a picture where you see it every day, say on the fridge, might also be helpful. I think many people don't achieve their resolutions as they don't break their goals into achievable steps. They expect too much of themselves in too short a time, and disheartened by early failures, abandon the goal altogether.
