I LOVE this type of vanilla custar...think it is the French one.
However I also like the ordinary ones, but my favourite are the ones pictured even though they are very messy to eat, and difficult to cut into bite sized pieces.
As you eat, the cream and custard oozes out and I always end up in a mess, but love this mess.
Hate them! I don't have a sweet tooth but do enjoy lemon tart (not lemon merinque though) and a baked cheesecake - plain flavour
The French call these "Mille-feuille" as in "a thousand layers".... my husband loves them and ate a lot when we lived in Belgium or on holiday in France. They don't taste anywhere near as good anywhere else though! It's all to do with how light and flaky the pastry is, I think.
Personally, I'm not a fan. I don't like any kind of cream cake and prefer my pastry in a savoury form.
I really don't like this type of sweet at all
The only Vanilla Slices I would ever have a small taste of are the proper French ones. These are exquisite, but way too much for me to have a whole one,or even half! I do not like the other cheaper ones at all. At school they had a really disgusting nickname, but I shall not go there, as you all may know it anyway!!! I am more a fruit and chocolate person!!
I hear you! I'm the very same. :)
Depends who has made it.
If a french cake shop, yes I love them.
The whole process of how it is made, is a big one for me.
I'm lucky the 3-4 a year I do eat, come from a wonderful cake shop.
I love vanilla slice...however I need to have a gluten free diet so don't get to eat them anymore!
I like rather than love vanilla slices but prefer the ordinary one to that shown above. A bakery in Woodend in Victoria has won best vanilla slice several times over. Where I used to work, whenever we had deliveries that passed through there the driver would stop for the vanilla slices and we would feast on them back at the office. They were indeed, "to die for." http://dayjaunts.net/woodend-vanilla-slices-at-bourkies-bakehouse/
I love them! Haven't had one for a very long time - if I start again it's a slippery slope!

Enjoy one every now & again. I find it VERY rich.
Probably opt for a Mars Bar Slice, instead! It's got chocolate!
Love these but take chocolate off don't like chocolate .
It's all your fault! Have had VS on brain since first read this question!
Had a Muggachino this arvo & guess which 'sweetie' I chose to have with it? Yup, a VS!
Must say it was deliciously fresh & enjoyable. Might have another soon! Lol!
love them, have not eaten one in ages, became too expensive in the cake shops.
The picture is NOT of a Vanilla Slice!
It seems a version of a Napoleon, without the jam.
Too many places sell Vanilla Slices made with chantilly cream instead of good custard. If you cannot make it properly, do not bother trying - make something else properly iinstead.

I hate normal ones, but love, love the one pictured - I think it's the french vanilla slice, like the one I used to buy from Pasticceria Fiorentina in Perth. yum, yum
I love them, esp. with all the goo squelching out the sides, but I still only eat around 1 a year! In fact since I haven’t bought 1 this year, I will buy 1 next time I’m passing a cake/coffee/bread shop, & take it home to share with my husband.
Now, having found this question again, they are 2 sweet for me, & I only buy caramel slices now. Those I the home to share as I can't eat a whole 1 on my own, & I don't like the thought of my 'other 1/2' missing out!
