Do you like to experiment in cooking, or do you generally make the "same old", "same old" over and over again?

I love experimenting and being creative in cooking, photographing and putting them on Recipe Yum!

However it is a lot of work, and living alone, also a lot of food!
I have a friend who I give all the leftover food to and she really appreciates it.

I will try most foods once and find it interesting to combine different foods and make unusual recipes.

I don't do a lot of it, but the 'want' is certainly there.
I am careful...as my son can reel in horror, if I get too carried away.
LOL! My husband is the same way. He wants something 'simple', and I feel the need to experiment.

I'm thinking the white little 'bits' could be fetta?...maybe.

I like to experiment when it isn't hot. It's sticky and stinky here now...so there will be no experimenting this week.

No, I don't live in Perth.

LOL Vee -I know that as I would have met you by now if you lived in Perth!! today is so cold I am shivering...next week 38 again, luckily...

I can't tolerate the heat like I used to, Finy. 38 degrees is too high for me.

The photo you have used here, Vee, I took the same photo off, at SxS in Sydney, about 3 years ago! We go to have a look every year. It's just wonderful, & I take about 105 photos every year, & do nothing with them afterwards!

miro_, what is SxS? It sounds like fun.

Hi Vee, I've only just found your question 2 me! (20/4/18) It's Sculpture by the Sea. Showing between Oct/Nov for about 3 weeks, & it's on the Bondi to Tamarama walk. (Sorry, I can't even spell the suburb!) But if you look it up, you'll see some of the works. I've only missed it twice in the it's 21 year history. It's also shown in Perth, on a beach starting with C! Some are the same works, other pieces are not.

A bit, yeah. I like to substitute ingredients to make recipes vegan, and sometimes I just throw stuff in to see what happens.
I have always been a 'creative' cook, mas opposed to always following recipes!! Even when I have used recipes,I've always changed them in some way. This has a great deal with how and why my son became a chef,I'm sure!! I live alone now ,and do not experiment as much now,but my meals are always that little bit different so I do enjoy both the cooking and the eating!!!
Oh! Jules, we could be 'twins' with what you've commented! Lol!

Oh yes. I love trying new things. I have so many recipes and each night I like to try one. If it doesn't get the thumbs up from family, out it goes !!!
I love to cook and do enjoy experimenting. I have a good balance between making the same old and creating new things. It also depends on time and budget. I tend to do the same old things when money and/or time is tight, and enjoy experimenting when I've got a bit more flexibility with both.
Sure, I love experimenting in cooking.
I used to be very experimental in my cooking, years' ago, but not so much nowadays.

With the cold weather, I've a new fave recipe of 'Snag Casserole'!
For this, those pre-cut carrot, & cabbage packs are perfect!
Sometimes have as 'Devilled', or 'Curried'.
Total dish gives me two full meals, & a soup on third night, so pretty cheap, but filling meal!
NO! I just enjoy going strictly by the recipe, (that I'd only use once a year.) Only about once a month, if we're home late from an outing, will I make up a very easy quick recipe!
by Miro
Thanks, Miro. Yes, I am familiar with Sculptures by the Sea. Haven't been yet. May go when the kids are a bit older. ;-)

I usually use a recipe as a rough guide. I have some favourites that I fall back on and they can vary each time I do them. I am a creative cook and will incorporate new ingredients as I can.
Recently I have been busy creating art and found I was getting boring with my cooking. I have been buying a box ( Hello Fresh) with the ingredients for three meals for two people. I have been trying lots of things I haven't cooked before. I notice my own recipes tend to be one or two pot recipes, but the ones in the box may be convenient but there is a lot of clean up at the end. I get vegetarian box and try to follow the recipe closely, with only a few substitutions.
