Yes I do though not the ones in the photo as they are way too sweet.
I like licorice covered in dark chocolate or plain licorice or flavoured licorice.
In fact most licorices apart from the Dutch one.
I no longer eat it though due to the sugar content and have had an opened packet in my pantry for about 5 months now!
I'm with you Finy. Cannot tolerate the Dutch salted licorice but my husband who is German grew up in a Dutch household and loves it. I really like the Darrel Lea black licorice as it's always fresh but have found when buying the chocolate coated one from Woolworths you need to make sure you get the fresher pack. My grandfather and my brother both preferred the licorice allsorts though.
I simply L O V E it . . . . however, I can no longer indulge as it raises blood pressure and is also full of sugar. *sob* . . . . cursed diabetes.
I had no ideas, until early last year, that licorice could cause very high blood pressure, particularly in people that "hog out" on it. I wonder how many people, that have hypertension, know about this. Quite dangerous really. Didn't see any disclaimer on any of the licrice products we buy.
Totally agree, fran. I was quite honestly gobsmacked that my doctor has never mentioned it and nor has any other health care professional. There I was, loving it and wondering why I felt "off" after eating it. Stupidly presumed it was a digestion problem. It really needs to be publicised.
Well Rice, when my husband was in hospital lately for an entirely different problem, we discussed it with the nurse (i.e. liquorice causing big spikes in BP). She said that no, she had never heard of that. Then in a complete turn-around she said that "Oh Yes, I have…I had a girlfriend that had very LOW blood pressure and she was told to eat liquorice to correct the feeling of light headedness, associated with LOW blood pressure". !!!!
Sure is something that needs to be discussed more or written about in Medical Journals.
Yes I enjoy it. I usually buy the big Aldi packs of it, when it's on special twice a year, as it doesn't seem to be as sweet as the other brands from other supermarkets, but it takes me months to eat through it. I bought a packet of it about 4 months ago, but i haven't started to eat it yet. At the moment I'm eating me way through 4 different Aldi fudges!, but I only have a tiny piece at a time!
When there finished I'll start on the liquorice, then eat my way through 3 tins of a different brand of Aldi fudge, but I wasn't being asked about fudge was I now?!
