I love the creative nature of seeing what people can conspire under the auspice of art and design - some of which are like sculptures of light.
There are however, some light fittings which have made me gasp in absolute horror with a few "What The" expletives. But there are some light fittings that actually beautifully incorporate old and new elements together or different organic elements which I find to be quite clever in design.
I've seen some weird and wacky lighting sculptures and installations in bars and restaurants and it suits the environment and the design of the place - having something conservative and structured wouldn't work within the design of the place.
Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't necessarily have some of these weird and wacky structures in my home. But I would steer more towards the unusual in my tastes than with something conservative. I really love the large old fashioned light globes or unusual glass bulbs with large exposed elements. I couldn't help and share some of my favourites (and what I would like in my home) and some of the more unusual but really clever ideas.
I have seen those light fittings in a jar at the local markets, and thought about getting a couple to put on the Christmas table. They are a bit quirky and safer than a candle. I saw a How To make them yourself on You Tube so maybe I'll have a go at making them myself !!! As for quirky light fitting, you always see strange looking light fittings in the foyers of big office buildings. I'm not sure why. Maybe some interior designer told them they would stand out or to impress people. It's a talking point at best, but not sure how functional it would be.
