Yes I just love croissants however due to the high sugar content, I do not eat them often any more.
I had them in France always for breakfast and they were so delicious with dobs of home made jam!
I also used to like them with ham and cheese, however no longer eat ham, and sometimes still have them with melted cheese, and rarely with butter and jam.
Macarons are another thing that need to be eaten in France . . . according to my daughter.
I had a croissant in Calais and it was simply the best one I had ever eaten. *sigh*
You sound like me Rice! as John Cleese would say, fun, that is something I used to know about - or some such! Awful to be restricted in what you eat, but last night I watched That Sugar Film again, and it is frightening how much sugar is in things you would not expect....
Terrifying!! High fives to us, though :-))))))))
I can live without them. I don't like lots of flaky pastry. Even when I was in France last year, I didn't indulge, except maybe a mouthful of hubby's croissant. When presented with a mouth watering buffet breakfast, I seem to walk past all the pastries. Breads and pastries hold little interest for me, which has turned out to be for the best, as I can't have them anyway.
We stayed in small places where there were no buffet breakfasts in France, and they mainly had croissants and we got used to them, and all loved them.....i think we could also have had an egg but mostly not much more than that as this is traditional.
Well we stayed 5 star all the way, and there were always buffet breakfasts. Lots of croissants if you wanted them. I mainly had eggs and fruit.
We used to have croissants every Sunday with marmalade & our (non) instant coffee. Now we only have them once a month. They are served on the cruises every day, but we'd only have 1 of the 2 chocolate sorts, with another pastry or 2 & share them, so we'd always be 'mixing' our pastries, trying all the different ones, with a latte, using our coffee card. This was after my smoked salmon, capers, cream cheese, red onion, a little muesli, fresh fruit & plain yogurt! (No we wouldn't have lunch as we liked going to the early dinner, so we could get to bed early!)
You're wonderful, Miro!! :-)))
What a silly sausage your daughter is. My mother used to say, "You'll be sorry when I'm gone!" Tell your daughter that :-)))
I do like them, but really do not buy them.
I think we look at them and think.... hummm? calories.
They scream calories, but maybe 1-2 times a year I get them, and have cream cheese & jam on them.
Cream cheese and jam? You mean, together?
