Yes, I love carrot cake!
I love it with the cream cheese icing and I used to think it was healthy as it had carrots in it.
However, now that I am conscious of the sugar I eat, I realise if there WAS anything healthy by using carrots, this is outdone by all the sugar that goes both into this cake, and also into the icing...
Unfortunately, it is another thing I no longer eat - sad!
Death by carrot cake :((( Sad, sad, pair. Yes, you are right.
Yes, I love carrot cake. My mother in law used to make delicious carrot cake and banana cake. Since she died last year, I haven't had any. I just don't eat a lot of cake or biscuits at any time. I'm glad that it is something that I am able to say 'No ' to, if offered it.
I LOVE Carrot Cake, but it really has to be made well. The icing has to be on 'par' too.
If I'm having the calories...they better be killers :)
Too right, jonaj! I've you're going to have something "naughty", I say you must do it properly!
Exactly....I'm a bit of a snob when it come to cake!...I guess because 30 years ago, cake shops were an important part of Aussie life...Even further back too.,
People would be able to find wonderful cake shops, and esp each Saturday...was the big treat day for most families. Now, well it's pretty sad.
You can't find good cake shops much now.
I blame Margaret Woodcraft. Her cakes are in every cafe, club, shopping centre and coffee shop we go to. It isn't a pleasure meeting anywhere for coffee and catch up any more as nobody has a decent home made cake :((
That's very interesting info....I know what you mean, same old-same!!
I agree jonaj, were sooooo many lovely cake shops. Now everything you get in shopping malls, shopping strips and even cake shops with same old fashioned facade, are all mass produced in a factory somewhere. I remember Saturdays too and beautiful things like apple turnovers with fresh cream, cream buns, chocolate eclairs with dark glossy ganache and fresh cream, baked custard tarts, matchsticks, lemon meringues blah blah blah. Now they are all solid, sweet rubbish, straight out of a fridge.
Indeed fran.....what lovely memories :)
Yes I like carrot cake, but I now find the icing over sweet. I haven't eaten any for a couple of years. There's other cakes I like better. The last 2 I bought were a chocolate 1 & a salted caramel 1. I think I'd now stick to chocolate cakes if I have to buy another cake. I'd bought those 2 for our birthdays, earlier this year.
oooh, yes, miro_, tiramisu is lovely.
Yes I do. Like Finy I love the cream cheese icing, but I avoid this type of food nowadays.
I let myself have cake very rarely - on my birthday and sometimes when it would cause offence not to. I missed having any last birthday, so I may just shout myself a slice of carrot cake and a cuppa somewhere soon...
