I love most cheeses, however jarlsberg (or Swiss cheese) is the one I order every week in my supermarket delivery.
I love the nutty flavour and have been eating this one most days for years now!
There is also a low fat alternative one however I do not like this one as much - the other similar one which is cheaper, is Maasdam.
I have had it, and I do like it but not a lot.
For me it is a strong cheese, so a little go's a long way.Not over strong...but a really nice one.
You should now read my reply to Rice's comment to me!!! Too funny...... Your picture is simply adorable and I love it!!!
I have probably had it without realising it, when I was out eating at a restaurant, if it was one of the ingredients in my meal. I could possibly have had it on a cheese platter at some stage. Cheeses on a cheese platter aren't labelled, so I could have eaten anything without knowing. When I am out at a social gathering, I am so busy chatting, that I don't really ponder what I am eating......ha ha !!
Well how do you know~~~ you may like it?
It is quite sweet (not in a sugary way) and nutty, dwatk :-)
It is a lovely cheese to have on a fruit and cheese platter!!! I love it with seedless crimson grapes!! The nutty tone to its flavour is deliciously light!
Not a fan. My husband likes it though. I use it to make his sandwiches.
I am very partial to Jarlsberg and often buy it. Like Finy, I also like Maasdam. St Claire is very like Jarlsberg too. Jarlsberg is a lovely addition to a cheese board.
Yes, St Claire I also have bought tho it is a softer cheese
I have never tried it. I must give it a go
This is a lovely cheese!! I always remember the wonderful stories my dad would tell about the holes in the 'swiss' cheese!! So enjoying the sweet, nutty flavour of this and the other 'Holey' cheeses has been a part of my life for over 50 years now!! Yum!!! I actually have Masdaam in my fridge at the moment as it was on special for $15.99 kg!!
You know how it goes . . . he saw Maasdam on special . . . . then we had a fridge full . . . !!
Ha ha ha ha ha!!!! Pity you are not in a fairy tale where you could share it with helpful magical mice!!!! However, dogs love cheese, so maybe you could share some of His Lordship's bounty with THEM!!!!! Dear, oh, dear!!!!!
My work for the day is done!! I have brought some smiles!!!
Actually, sorry, Jarlsberg is from norway....but, made by swiss who move there LOL
We like this cheese. I remember years ago mum used to make asparagus rolls using this cheese. That's probably the first time I would have eaten it
Oh! How delicious!! My own mum did similar things with asparagus!!! Now I am tempted to do something yummy like that for my lunch!!!
Yes, I do enjoy jarlsberg cheese, I don't eat it often because I find it too expensive.
Diana, That's why I haven't bought it for many years! When I left home after I married 48 years ago, my mum use to buy it for me, sometimes. I've only bought it for my self, once since then! I'll look for it again, next time we do the supermarket shopping, as I can buy anything I like now!
Oh yes - I love to get really thin slices and have them on a sandwich. The flavour of Jarsberg can be quite overpowering, so a little goes a long way.
I don't mind the flavour as long as it is the authentic one, some of the so called jarlsberg are not as creamy and can be tasteless
Thanks for the warning, Brigi. I'll look for it, next time I'm shopping, which should be to-day or tomorrow!
I LOVE Jarlsberg. Just wish it wasn't soon expensive! I haven't bought any in years. If Aldi sell it, I'll buy some next time I'm shopping there.
