The enigma code was the code used by the germans in WW2 to communicate with their U-boats, among other things.
It was cracked by a man named Alan Turing, and it more or less brought WW2 to it's conclusion. Without his code cracking machine, D Day could never have happened.
Late last week I went a saw the movie called the Imitation Game and it was brilliant and this is where I learnt about the Enigma Code and what Allan Turing had achieved. My wife read about it in the paper last year.
I saw the movie and a documentary this last week and that's how I learnt about him. I'm horrified at what happened to him, and that I had never even heard of him, despite hearing about the enigma code so many times in my life!
Yes, learnt about it in Modern History at School, back in late '60's.
Have seen a doco. on tv about it since, & will go & see movie, as I think Benedict Cumberbatch is a consummate actor of our time.
