I have not opened my bedroom blinds for about 2 to 3 weeks now as they get the morning sun.
I find I have double glazing, double blinds, and it still gets hot in that room if I open the blinds.
I have become adjusted to the light in the room which still comes in from the sides and the bottom of the blinds.
Other rooms I also only open blinds slightly so it stays cooler -with temperatures around 32 - 35° every day, I would not have them open.
I keep them closed and then open them when the sun goes around to another side of the house. My husband doesnt even like me doing this. He says that the curtains keep the heat from the hot glass coming into the room. Not sure if that is correct or not. However, I have had two visitors to my home say to me that I sould have the blinds and curtains open as ut doesn't display the garden as well as they think it should be. I can't get over Australians at times. Just the fading of the rugs and bedding and even furniture in summer makes it obvious to me that you do NEED to do something with the curtains. I have been told by Europeans that, tho they absolutely love wallpaper, that they wouldn't even consider buying or using it here in Aust. because of the very strong UV light.
I keep them open even in the hot weather. I need to see the light - very depressing to sit in a dark house, I love natural light
Yes, you have too.
Makes no sense having all that sunlight streaming in for the home to get hot.
Plus, it takes the colour out of the carpet and furniture, quicker than I like to admit.
I keep some open but close others depending on where the sun is positioned.
I do, with the windows open a crack behind them to try to encourage a breeze to come in... the difference is noticeable so worth doing.
It depends on the room and the side of the house where the windows are!! I love to be able to see my lush garden outside the big glass sliding doors to my TV room, but I do not mind having the bedroom blinds shut as the dimmer light is definitely cooler in that room!
Only on very hot days, ie 40 degrees, I don't like doing this as like the light and so do my indoor plants!
On extremely hot days we keep all the curtains and blinds closed. It helps keep the heat out and saves eletricity on the aircon.
I would still open them for sometime to let some natural light and fresh air in.
I keep them open. Nice to see the sunshine coming in!
I only close the blinds when the afternoon sun comes in. Vertical blinds make it easy.
No, as prefer air to circulate.
If that's not happening, on a foul hot day, go into 'lockdown', & switch on the aircon!
My house is not a morgue and I cannot stand being in dim light. I like to see the sky, the birds and the sunshine or rain. If it gets a bit hot . . on goes the air con.
And windows closed after mid morning
Yes, I have roller shutters, so I do tend to keep them closed throughout summer.
I've floor to ceiling exterior shutters on my windows and they remain down when hot. You'd be surprised how much cooler the house is and ceiling fans help when necessary.
Yes until the sun has passed over the front of my house, it helps keep the house cooler (even though I have tinted glass at front).

Yes I do keep my curtains closed, on very hot days because it seems to keep the house cooler.
