Do you ever give food hampers as presents when you don't know what else to buy?

Do you think they are good value for money?

I have only ever given a few hampers as Christmas presents.

Perhaps the best one was one I got from The Peanut Van in Queensland -they make the most beautiful peanuts in all flavours and the basket looked gorgeous.

I have also had one from that large firm who's name I cannot recall and that was also OK. I do not think the value is all that good as if you bought everything separately and made it yourself, it would probably be cheaper.

However they do make them look so nice, and do not think a home made one would look so good.

I really like this idea. I've never given one as a gift, but my husband has a cousin who gives them when he comes for lunch. He's too generous, and we tell him so. He will bring mangoes, avocados, mandarins, you name it. And he brings a lot.

no so much a food hamper, but I like to make dinners that can be frozen to give to families when they have a baby.

I was gifted this when I was expecting number 3, my friends stocked my freezer, it was so awesome! Best gift ever, so I try to do this whenever I can.
I've sometimes given 'themed' hampers, like a coffee one that contained two mugs, several different types of coffee, whitener, sugar cubes and cookies. Another one was cookies from around the world. I've also given one with wine, cheese and crackers. One of the best gifts I ever received was a hamper put together by some friends when my husband passed away. I was struggling financially and rather than embarrass me by offering money, they filled a basket with lots of staples plus a couple of treats for my children. It was really generous and I was very grateful.
I have a couple of times, and yes they are wonderful if you really don't know what to buy, for that person.
Who ever came up with the idea was a genius!
I do hate the ones that have things in them, that no one would eat....and we have all had them.

Who wants a can of snails?

All jokes aside, yep! great gift giving.
Yes! I love giving and receiving a home made hamper. I give my cousin one every year.
I think they make ideal presents for people who already have homes full of "stuff" who really don't need or have room for any more things! A food hamper looks lovely, if chosen carefully is full of delicious goodies and once they are eaten, there is a useful container for storing other things.
We choose the theme of the hamper carefully for the recipient so that we know they will actually enjoy the food in them.
When my husband worked in Brussels, his company gave everyone a hamper at Christmas and that was great fun to unpack - there would be all sorts of strange things in there.... advocaat jam anyone?! Peach Champagne?? And one year, there were two huge fluffy bath sheets at the bottom. Totally random and very Belgian! In Germany we just got shopping vouchers, much more practical but rather boring. I preferred the hampers.
I have made up a couple over the years but not recently, really enjoyed picking the various gourmet foods at the time. they are a very good idea I think...particularly for many people who have everything these days..

I have never given a food hamper to anyone - it's not something I have ever thought to give as a present

Only home made ones!!! I love doing all the creative wrapping so I get a kick out of choosing items which the recipient is going to really enjoy a lot!! And when I included my own dried mangoes and choc-dipped dried apricots, etc;it made these hampers even better for all concerned!
I don't as they are quite a boring present.
I haven't, no.
No I haven't but I think it is a good idea when you do not know what to buy someone especially if they have everything. If I were to do a food hamper, I would choose items that last a while (such as chocolate, jams, biscuits etc) so they do not have to eat everything straight away.

No i havent, but a very good idea will definately make friut hampets this year for my friends.
No & No.
They're just SO expensive! Wouldn't even buy one for myself, let alone anyone else!
NOBODY'S that important to me!
IMO, they smack a little of 'laziness' on the part of the giver. Can't be bothered attitude, 'oh, I'll just send a hamper'. No care or responsibilty.

I give my children what they want, be it an actual present or Gift Voucher. Their choice.
Hubby & I don't give presents to each other at celebratory dates throughout the year, by agreement decades ago.
But exception is Wedding Anniversary; go the whole 'kitten-caboodle' then!
Yes, I had given a few fruit hampers as a Christmas presents, and they prepared by myself.
I've made them up and given to family but it is mostly with goodies that they wouldn't normally afford in their weekly shopping. I also add refrigerated items obviously kept in fridge and/freezer until they are ready to leave.
We've made up 3 only over recent years for my in-laws, & once we had a family $20 limit food K.K. 1 Christmas, but I'd never bother actually buying 1 from a shop, as I've never thought they were worth the money. Much cheaper too make up your own 1!
