I haven't done that in a long time, but now that you mention it I might buy some next shop. I like shelling them. I grow some of my own peas, but not very many. It's mainly so the kids can enjoy picking them.
I have not seen them much of late, and the price is a tad expensive.Somehow I just don't buy them.
When I was younger, it was the only way to buy peas.
Now I guess frozen have become the norm, but really I DO love fresh . :)
I have not seen them in the supermarket for a long time. When I have picked them from the garden I eat the shell and the peas. The shell can be too fibrous if it has been on the plant too long.
If I see them in the shop I shall probably buy some, but I doubt I will cook them as they are so good raw.
Oh! What delightful and delicious memories of growing up this question invoked!!!! We would buy these by the pound(half a kilo!!) and I think we ate more during the shelling process than what we managed to cook! These days I see them so very rarely and though they are dreadfully expensive, I do spoil myself by buying some, just to relive my happy youth!!
I LOVE fresh peas from the pod so much!! I have to make do with Snow Peas these days though as they are readily available, and also affordable!!!
No. Not very often. They are usually too expensive. I think we get spoiled by the cost and convenience of frozen veggies, which are just as good for us nutritionally as fresh. My mother used to grow fresh peas and they were so delicious !!! Nothing compares to home grown. Mmmm !! Now I feel like some !!! I'll have to go get some if the price comes down.
They physically make me sick so haven't eaten them since a child. If happen to forget to tell a waiter when dining out, "no peas" I won't eat anything on the plate until I've picked all of them off the plate. Luckily the Chinese restaurant we go to does not have peas in their fried rice, hence the reason we don't change restaurants.
No, I haven't bought the the normal peas in years. Frozen may not taste as nice, but they're just so handy! There is 1 sort i used to buy for stir-frys, where you leave the peas in the shell, but I haven't bought those for a long time either, as I can't get to a fruit/veg shop anymore, since shopping at Aldi.
