Do you avoid watching or reading the news?

This may betray naivety, idiocy, or irresponsibility, but I avoid watching or reading the news. I will listen to the news on the radio in the car, but that is often the extent of my exposure to the headlines of the day.
Do you avoid watching or reading the news, or do you seek it out? Why?

I always try and have a read on the internet or t.v. (maybe) but t.v is crazy! they only tell you, what they want you to know...sadly.
So yes I have always looked for what is happening in the world.
I have a saying I tell my son....''I'm going to see if we are still here?'
Think about it ..!
I'm thinking very hard jonaj, lol, but still don't know what you mean by "I'm going to see if we are still here?"
In other words the ''powers that be- have not put into motion some cataclysmic operation that within hours.....will shake us to the core''. :)
Thank you for that clarification. I fully compute.
Yes, I try to avoid 'the news' - not all the time, but most of the time. It may be naive or irresponsible, but I feel I can't be my best self when I am constantly bombarded by negativity.
No, I always watch the news in the evening, although I do get fed up with it sometimes when it keeps repeating the same story over again and there is nothing new to report.
I like to have an understanding about what's happening in the world and current affairs, but try to avoid getting too caught up in it. As others have said, both television and newspapers repeat so many things, not to mention all the other diversions we get bombarded with.
I watch the TV news every night -I like to know what is going on in the world.
However sometimes, I do not watch it all when it is all gloom and doom. I was OK till my children died, and since then I find I just get upset so easily that I often have to turn off the news or sit there crying for other parents.
I do not watch news relate to politics, they make me and my family too stressful, especially make me very depressed, I do not want to have heart attack from this, no good to die young! My private life is so nice, joyful. Mrs Sophie Wang
Thanks for posting Sophie. I know what you mean. It's important to protect our families.
I'll watch the 1st news, because my husband is watching it. He'll watch 3 sessions of it at night, but I'm in the kitchen next door, so I don't have to see it 3 times! I wish they wouldn't bother telling us about all the bad things that are happening every day! Our eldest daughter got rid of their tv before their 1st baby was born. The house is so peaceful, without the tv!
miro_ I wish I had done the same thing. My son is addicted to television. I limit how much he watches, but it doesn't stop him from throwing a tantrum when he sees it and is not allowed to watch it. >.<
