Can you take up the hem yourself on jeans that are too long, or do you have to pay someone to do this for you?

No I hate sewing and generally will either get someone to do this or give to my friend who sews -thank you Joy -though she will not read this!

I gave my sewing machine away when I moved back to the city as I rarely used it and I gave it to a lady who loves sewing and has no money.

That is a good excuse for not even attempting to do them -when I do them they are usually not even and sewn badly, so I stopped many years ago.

I have NEVER paid to have a hem taken up in my life!!!! I used to do all my sewing and even that of many of my friends. Now as my hands are quite crippled with severe arthritis despite my relatively young age,I cannot do this anymore.I tend to buy Capri style pants which are mid-calf and never need taking up!
I'm not good at this. If I can manage to get away with doing a bodge job, I will. Otherwise, I would pay somebody to do it.

I don't wear jeans but I can take up a hem on anything, it's a very simple and quick job on trousers but skirts take a bit longer as they have a lot more fabric!
Sometimes with my husband's really expensive work trousers, I get them properly taken up by a tailor as then they put on hemming tape which gives some extra strength to the hem and ensures the trousers last longer.
Nope. Couldn't sew to save my life so this is one task I am more than happy to outsource!
My sewing skills are not very good. I couldn't take up a pair of jeans if they were too long. I can just about sew on a button if I have to.

Yes I have always done them myself, now it is a pain as I can't see as well as I used to and have to set myself up in the study with bright light etc...almost can't be bothered! haven't done for awhile, not that big on jeans

I do all my son's hems.
I think sewing a hem is very basic, and really saves a lot of money and time.
I do use the sewing machine a bit :)
I've never had to do this on jeans, but I'm sure I could if it came to the test.
Probably sewing is THE most hated thing in my life! Prefer Cooking!
ANY sewing I've ever needed done, I take to a professional seamstress, that way it's done properly!
Yes I can. Always have to this with jeans and skirts as I am only 5'1" and clothes are always too long for me.
i couldn't sew for the life of me! I don't wear jeans. My husband just folds his jeans hem under to his right length. Problem fixed! (Well, sort of!)
