Are you surprised that so many young people still smoke, despite all the education and warnings?

My daughter had her 21st last weekend and I couldn't believe how many of the young people there were smoking - male and female. I thought we lived in a more enlightened society these days. Seems like all those ads on TV and warnings on cigarette packets aren't make much of an impact.

Does this surprise you?

No it doesn't surprise me. I think there would be a lot of people that were very surprised at the number of doctors and nurses that smoke.
I wish I could say it surprised me but it doesn't really. I think most young people probably know that smoking is bad for them but for some that is part of the appeal.
Yes, I'm surprised. Worst this habit seems to be on the increase. I can't see why!!!!!
I am not surprised.. But yes, smoking is injurous for health and should be banned.
I still wonder 'why' in 2014 smoking has not been fazed out.
It is a serious health issue. The Government needs to get those scientist working harder, and get rid of this insidious drug!...It is one drug that has stayed with us
too long.People need something stronger, to help them quit.
Very sad, we see it still around killing people.
Smoking is disgusting. Having said that, it doesn't surprise me that people continue to smoke despite the warnings.

No it does not surprise me as I did it and I knew all about the harm it COULD do to you.

It is something that some teenagers or older kids want to try, so I am not at all surprised as at that age, I think you feel invincible.

The other thing is peer pressure -if all your friends are doing it, perhaps a lot would not want to be left out, so to speak.

Not surprised just very, very sad.
Not in the least!

The 'general populace' is getting stupider, not wiser!
Why take note of multiple decades' of research?
All the 'youngies' know better than anyone else. It's a 'rebellion' of sorts going against the 'Establishment'.

Haven't youth ALWAYS done that?
