Some of the world's most well known and famous chefs are men--Gordon Ramsay, Heston and Jamie Oliver. So does this mean that men are better chefs than women?

Not necessarily. Maybe more male chefs put in the hours and have higher profiles than women chefs do. Like anything, you get out what you put in.
I think both men and women have the potential to be as good a cooks as each other. There are famous female chefs too - Nigella Lawson, Delia Smith, Mary Berry. Just because there are not as many famous female chefs as there are male, does not mean that male chefs are better - just that they have presented themselves to world more.
I think they are...not because they are men but because they are passionate about what they do. Just happens that they are men. And because they are men, and according to society should not be in the kitchen, the media focuses on them.....show casing the passion for what they do!
In my Opinion.
There are more men than women...........I have to say, from working with them when younger, they do have a handle on the 'craft'.
The world has some great female chefs, but men have taken over this area.
So in my Opinion I think.... maybe yes.
Some are, some aren't. It's an individual thing. There are female celebrity chefs too (eg. Nigella Lawson, the Two Fat Ladies). There might be fewer famous female chefs in total but that doesn't mean men are better chefs any more than the lack of attention paid to womens' sport means men are better athletes.
No, they're just promoted better than the women. Probably there are more male chefs out there than female ones because of the lifestyle being a chef entails. It isn't for everyone, and would be more suited to some men than women.

I think men seem to have a flair that we do not have.
I hope I don't get "howled down" for this comment, however why are there more male chefs on TV and indeed in restaurants than females.....or is that answering a question with a question!

My son's a Sous Chef, with Patisserie Certification & B.Hosp.Mgt (Degree).

I'd say equal, as there're plenty of GOOD female cooks here, Margaret Fulton, Charmaine Solomon (dec'd) etc. I think Maggie Beer is a qualified Chef.
The men just 'put themselves out there', as they don't have to worry about pregnancy, maternity leave or child raising.
Just look at Jamie Oliver, four kids, but you don't see his wife, Jools, very often!
My son's a Head Chef, & is off London!
Good on him. Has worked, & studied very hard to reach this point.

I have no idea which sex is better at cooking. I have 2 daughters who are/were chefs/cooks. The eldest 1 is now looking after 2 little daughters, & went into publishing, after her cooking jobs, The other 1 started out in photography, then took up cooking, but this answer is NOT answering the question!
