The Antarctic is considered to be the last remaining great wilderness, packed full of interesting wildlife. There is currently some controversy over tourists travelling there.
Would you like to visit the Antarctic?
I'm torn over this, as I would love to see the spectacular scenery and wildlife but I really really really dislike being cold and need to wee a lot (you're not allowed to leave yellow snow there!) so it's not a good destination for me. Also I'm not sure that tourism should be encouraged there. I like the idea of there being one place in the world where nature is just left alone by human beings.
Never really thought about it, but I guess what I can say is that I have so many other destinations I want to visit around the world, that the Antarctic would be pretty far below on that list, making it less likely for me to actually visit.
Exactly! I was listening to a programme about how tourists there have to be "bio-cleaned" so they don't take any contaminants in, like foreign germs or seeds.... and thought how easy it would be for a less scrupulous tour operator to destroy the place.
I'm not one for cold locations but the Scenic Tours cruise looks pretty awesome and somehow I think it would be worth the cold to step where so few have ever been. Of course, I'd need to win Tattslotto to be able to afford it!
