Would you ever participate in a triathlon?

Triathlons are not as overwhelming at what appears to be the case at first. The Olympic level triathlon events comprise of swimming 1.5kms, bike riding 40kms and running 10kms. However, there are triathlon events that only comprise of around 300m of swimming as well as 8km of cycling, and only 3kms of bike riding. The latter is manageable for many. Sure, it does not matter where you finish. Would you ever participate in a triathlon? If so and if not, why?

No, probably never. They're a little too hardcore for me! I guess the shorter events you describe would be much easier but it still doesn't sound like my cup of tea. I do aspire to run a marathon one day, but I'm not there yet.
Once my kids are a little older and I can train I would love to. I think triathlon would be good for me because I like variety.
No. I can't be bothered to put in all the training, and I couldn't cope with bad weather. I would also have to tell people that I was taking part, and there would be questions which I wouldn't be able to explain.
Yes, I'll actually be participating in one in March 2014 in Sydney. A shorter version as part of a corporate challenge from my partners company. I just need to bike ride a little more.
I am too unfit ... so no I wouldn't. The closest I came was a City to Surf race and I couldn't walk for a couple of days afterwards.
This is a life goal for me, or at least one of them. So, yes.

I really want to at some point in my life. I really, really want to. Swimming is not my strong point however, nevermind swimming in the sea, which terrifies me. Maybe I need to face my fear and crack on with training at least...
