I thought the question was going to read, "Why do people get a better sleep with a Bible?"! My guess is because it's far more comfortable to sleep with a pillow, and therefore more conducive to a good night's rest.

I imagine it's what you're used to. I remember reading that in some places people don't use pillows, or use a block of wood or something to rest their heads on instead.
The neck is supported.
If you look at my pic, you can see that the mans neck has no support. If you sleep like that for say more than an hour or two, you may get some problems.
May be harder to breath.

May have spine problems in the long run.
Could have a very stiff neck on waking.
Plus the head normally weighs about 4.5 kilos.

That much strain on the neck unsupported will cause strain on the neck, shoulders and even back after time.

I guess also it feels better sleeping with a pillow too.
I guess because your body is more in line with how it should be -I used to use a really small baby pillow till I had an accident and have a back problem now.

Support of head, neck, & spine.
Love my old pillow! SO comfy!

It's interesting to see people, usually travelling by train or bus, carrying their fave pillow, BUT rarely on an aircraft! Cost factor?
Because it is more comfortable and the neck is supported so the head is in line with the rest of the body.
