I asked my 8yr old to think of a question to ask you and he came up with this.

It's to do with the rods and cones at the back of your eye I think. One does colour and one does black and white vision, if you have more of the black and white one, then your night vision is better.
I have excellent night vision by the way, as does my father. Nearly as good as a cat's! So not all human beings lack night vision :)
I'm glad I asked, because all your answers are interesting!

I assume it has something to do with adaptation and necessity for night time hunting.
Cats need to go out and find prey.
It's in their DNA.
Humans have had the day light to help them find food.
Cat's need that advantage, so they prey will not flee.
Plus, humans are prey to Big Cat's and the like if out at night(way back when).
